Masaai Boy

Tagging along on a medivac with Rebecca one day we landed at Loliondo, a hospital deep in Masai land. This boy came up and with a little encouragement allowed a couple of pics to be taken. The Masai dress their children in the traditional red shuka from a very early age. Interestingly, the red shuka that is synonamous with these people is a fairly recent introduction.

 

Fatima

Every day I drive past her; she always has a ready smile and a wave. At night I hear her alcoholic father shouting and cursing, or find her sitting outside in the dark waiting for the storm to pass.

Loner

I love this tree. It sits resolutely atop a hill near my present home. A lone, weathered old man who has somehow escaped the wood heap to watch another day unfold in Arusha.

 

Dream

Sometimes a photograph just suprises you. This one was taken in the Ngorogoro Crater (Tanzania) and has such a dreamy quality.

Thoughtful Eyes

Here she is again. Becuase she is just so beautiful. Those eyes followed our every move.

 

Curious Eyes

We landed at a remote strip in the Luangwa Valley (Zambia) to plan the next part of a survey flight. These children were terrified, but curiosity got the better of them! I caught these little faces peering over the bamboo wall of the rustic hunters shelter 

Mama Africa

Miriam Makeba Live in Arusha! What an incredible woman, what an incredible night; we danced, laughed and cried. At 70, she put on the best concert I have ever been to. Then there was her niece; no one will ever forget her solo performance.

 

Taxi Man

Just outside Kabwe (Zambia) this man had transformed the wreck of a VW bus into the most original shop I have ever seen! Proof of Africas incredible ability to recycle! Sadly he later felt compelled to abide by the law and painted his shop in the required blue and white of Zambian taxis; coincidently the ruling parties signature colours! 

Masaai Man

A new recruit to the anti-poaching team listens attentively to an instructor. He is a Masaai, an ethinic minority in the team and struggled to fit in at first, but soon proved his worth.

Cinderella

While on an anti-poaching exercise in Kizigo (Tanzania), this little girl wondered into camp. She had escaped from captivity (the rope burns were still clear) and seemed very at ease in human company. It wasnt long before she was joining the group for meals and chatting away with anyone who would listen!

 

Zambezi Elephant

We landed pretty late in the Lower Zambezi and were rushing to the camp for the night when we stumbled upon this elephant. Not an unusal sighting but so close to the vehicle, I could have reached out and touched it.

 

The First Post

Well here we are; the first post on my very own Blog! Quite a moment! Not completely sure what form this will take, if it takes at all. My intentions are to post a couple of my favorite photographs, tell you a little about where they were taken and see where it goes.
